abstract | ANTI-HIV ACTIVITY OF LIPOSOMAL NYSTATIN AND AMPHOTERICIN B ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION A method is disclosed for inhibiting the replication of HIV-1 virus. The method includes the step of administering to a subject which is infected with HIV-1 a pharmaceutically effective amount of a liposomal composition which comprises at least one lipid and a polyene selected from nystatin and amphotericin B. Such liposomal compositions have been found to be selectively toxic for HIV-infected cells.The composition preferably comprises nystatin, dimyristoyl phosphatidyl choline, and dimyristoyl phosphatidyl glycerol, with the weight ratio of the latter two components being about 7:3. |
