titleOfInvention | Treating an autodeposited coating with an alkaline solution containing anions of multifunctional organic acids |
abstract | The adhesion and/or corrosion resistance of an autodeposited coating can be improved by rinsing the uncured coating with an aqueous treatment solution that has a pH between 7 and 11 and contains between 0.05 and 5 w/o of anions derived from multifunctional organic acids; preferably anions of 1-hydroxyethylidene-1,1-diphosphonic acid, citric acid, tartaric acid, and/or oxalic acid: The method is particularly useful on leaf springs and other metallic objects with surfaces of high carbon and/or shot blasted steel, and is particularly useful in conjunction with an autodeposition bath containing internally stabilized poly (vinyli-dene chloride) latex, hydrafluoric acid, ferric fluoride, and hydrogen peroxide. |
