abstract | 2-(3-[4-(3-Halophenyl)-1-piperazinyl]propyl derivatives of certain 4-alkyl-or 4-phenoxyalkyl-2,4-dihydro-3H-1,2,4-triazol-3-ones and triazol-3,5-diones are psychotropic agents having promise as antidepressants by virtue of their receptor site binding affinity profiles and animal pharmacology. Compounds of Formula I and their acid addition salts and/or hydrates are disclosed: (see formula I) In the foregoing structural formula the symbol R denotes halogen, preferably chloro, or trifluoromethyl; Z is hydrogen or (see formula II) with R1 being hydrogen, halogen, C1-4 alkoxy and trifluoromethyl; and n is an integer from 2-4. The symbol X is either an oxygen atom, providing a carbonyl moiety; or is an acetyl group The single and dotted lines represent either a covalent single bond or a double bond. The compounds of Formula I exist then in two structural subclasses, Ia and Ib. |
