abstract | ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In a process for purifying phenol which comprises introducing into a distillation tower, a liquid phenol composition comprising above about 95 weight percent phenol on a dry basis and organic contaminants, and introducing fresh water into the distillation tower in order to reduce certain of the contaminants in a hydroextraction process, the improvement comprising adding at least a portion of said fresh water into the distillation tower at or near the bottom of the hydroextractive zone whereby such water removes the organic contaminants through a countercurrent process of contacting the phenol composition. |
