The present invention discloses 5-oxygenated amino substituted pyrimidines (X), where R1 is (1) steroid substituent of formula (Steroid), (2) trolox substituent of formula (trolox), (3) an alkyl substituent selected from the group consisting of (A)Q2-(CH2)n2. Also disclosed are the oxygenated N,N-disubstituted pyrimidines (XIII) all of which are useful for treating a number of conditions including head injury, stroke, spinal cord injury, etc. Useful intermediates including the protected 5-oxygenated pyrimidines (VII) and the 5-oxygenated pyrimidines (VIII) are also disclosed. Further disclosed are 5-hydroxy amino substituted pyrimidines (XI). |
