titleOfInvention | Chlorine-free chlorine dioxide |
abstract | Abstract of the Disclosure Process for the production of chlorine-free chlorine dioxide obtained by the reduction of sodium chlorate with acid. Chlorine gas by-product in the gaseous mixture obtained from the sodium chlorate generator is removed by selective absorption of chlorine dioxide into a selective absorbent medium, particularly sulphuric acid. The majority of the chlorine by-product remains in the gaseous mixture and collected for beneficial use, if desired. Purified chlorine dioxide is obtained from the resultant chlorine dioxide selective absorbent medium. The resultant chlorine dioxide may be further absorbed into an aqueous solvent and any residual chlorine therein removed by oxidation. The chlorine-free chlorine dioxide product is of value as a wood pulp bleaching agent providing reduced amounts of organo chloro compounds, such as dioxins. |
