abstract The present invention is directed to a thioalkylthio cephalosporin antibiotic compound of formula I: (see formula I) wherein Acyl is C1 - C12 acyl; Het is an optionally substituted monocyclic heteroaromatic group containing one or more hetero atoms; R1 is a single bond or C1 - C4 alkylene; R2 is a straight or branched C1 - C4 alkylene; X is a sulfur atom or sulfoxide group; and Y is a hydrogen atom or methoxy group, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or an amino-, carboxy- and/or hydroxy-protected derivative thereof. The invention is further directed to a formulation containing the compound of formula I and a method far treating bacterial infections.
