Oligomeric immunoglobulins |
abstract |
Novel oligomeric monoclonal antibodies with high avidity for antigen are described. The oligomers, typically of the IgG class, are secreted having two or more immunoglobulin monomers associated together to form tetravalent or hexavalent IgG molecules. The oligomers can be formed by substantially duplicating regions of the light chain, particularly the variable region. Oligomeric antibodies of the IgG isotype cross the placenta and can provide passive immunity to a fetus, which is particularly important for protecting newborns against pathogens such as group B streptococci. |
