"ELECTRICAL HEATING OF OIL RESERVOIR" ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A well is completed with the steel casing landed at the overburden/reservoir interfacing said casing being conductively coupled with the overburden. An insulated tubular liner, suspended from the foot of the casing, extends through the oil reservoir and comprises a ported, short electrode positioned just above the reservoir/underburden interface. Insulated tubing is coupled with the electrode. Electrolyte is pumped into the reservoir through the prot of the electrode, to emplace a conductive body of liquid that laterally extends the electrode. Low frequency current is supplied to the enlarged electrode through the tubing, passed upwardly through the near-bore region of the reservoir and returned through the casing, to thereby heat the near-bore region of the reservoir and returned through the casing, to thereby heat the near-bore region of the reservoir. |
