ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An anti-obesity composition is disclosed. The composition comprises a therapeutically effective amount of an .alpha.-amylase inhibitor together with at least one pharmaceutically acceptable excipient The composition is useful in inhibiting .alpha.-amylase activity in saliva and pancreatic juice, and thereby reducing digestion and absorption of starch contained in foodstuffs. In this manner, obesity can be counteracted and, in some cases, substantially prevented without significantly changing the diet of the individual being treated. |
