Further encompassed by the invention is a novel process for the production of the tricyclic pteridinones and their aza analogs. The compounds of the invention exhibit cardiovascular properties, particularly mixed vasodilation and selective venous and arterial dilation. Pharmaceutical compositions are proposed for the compounds.
