abstract 18 A process for combating pollution caused by liquid hydrocarbons involves spreading partially dehydrated calcium sulphate over the slick. The calcium sulphate is prepared by dehydrating natural gypsum at between 100°C, and 170°C, suitably for 1 to 4 hours. It is preferably in a particulate form, the majority of particles being from 1 to 100 ? in size.
