abstract | Mo3160 DERMAL DOSIMETER ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Improved dosimeters for measuring exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals such as pesticides are made by (a) submerging a porous substrate in a solution containing (1) a sunscreening agent which is nonvolatile, non-toxic, capable of dissolving the material being measured and capable of effectively blocking out ultraviolet radiation, (2) at least one inert, nonvolatile carrier solvent which is compatible with the sunscreening agent and (3) a volatile solvent, (b) removing the wetted substrate from the solution and (c) evaporating off the volatile solvent (3) from the wetted substrate. In the most preferred embodiment, the porous substrate is a gauze pad, the sunscreening agent is oxybenzone, the inert nonvolatile solvent is a mixture of glycerol and propylene glycol and the volatile carrier is acetone. |
