abstract ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to a process for puri-fying, by the wet method, fumes containing nitrogen oxides, in which the nitrogen monoxide is oxidized by an oxidizing agent into nitrogen dioxide which is itself reduced to nitrogen by using the reducing properties of the sulfur dioxide very often present in the fumes, said reduction being effected with the aid of an intermediate agent and having for its purpose not to transfer the nitrogen oxides in the form of nitrates in the effluent of the process of purification.
