abstract ABSTRACT The present invention relates to the use of a mixture of a salt of lactic acid and chlorous acid as an improved bactericidal agent in flooding waters used in oil recovery operations wherein the mixture is obtained by reacting lactic acid and sodium chlorite at a temperature ranging from about 60° F to about 80° F. The use of other acids is also disclosed.
