abstract There are disclosed compounds having the formula I (see Formula I) where n is 1 or 2; X is hydrogen, loweralkyl, loweralkoxy, halogen, hydroxy, nitro or trifluoromethyl; R is hydrogen, benzyl or alkanoyl of 2 - 12 carbons, with the proviso that the group -OR may not be on the 1- or when n is 2, the 4- positions of the three ring system; and R1 and R2 are each independently hydrogen, loweralkyl or arylloweralkyl, but both may not be arylloweralkyl simultaneously, or alternatively R1 and R2 taken together may constitute the group (see formula II) NR3R4 where R3 and R4 are each independently loweralkyl; and a process for their preparation. The compounds can be used for the treatment of various memory dysfunctions characterized by decreased cholinergic function, such as Alzheimer's disease.
