abstract A novel resin composition comprising an admixture and/or the reaction product of (a) one or more polyphenylene ether resins, (b) one or more polyamide resins and (c) one or more aliphatic polycarboxylic acid represented by the formula: (RIO)m R(COORII)n(CONRIIIRIV)s or salts thereof wherein R is linear or branched chain, saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon of from 2 to 20 carbon atoms; RI is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen or an alkyl, aryl, acyl or carbonyl dioxy group of from 1 to 10 carbon atoms; each RII is independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen or an alkyl or aryl group of from 1 to 10 carbon atoms; m is equal to 1 and (n + s) is greater than or equal to 2, and n and s are each greater than or equal to 0; and wherein (ORI) is alpha or beta to a carbonyl group and at least 2 carbonyl groups are separated by 2 to 6 carbon atoms. The novel resin has improved chemical resistance, processability, elongation properties and impact strength and reduced water absorption.
