abstract Abstract An intracavitary laser operating device using a laser has a catheter accommodating a laser light projecting fiber, a pulse laser oscillator device, an acoustic detector for detecting an acoustic wave generated from a diseased portion, and an acoustic analyzer for analyzing the acoustic wave to obtain amplitude change and spectrum data of the acoustic wave. A controller calculates the optimum conditions for the laser light based on such data and controls the oscillator device accordingly. The arrangement avoids the risk that a normal blood vessel wall might be damaged or carbonized or other damage done by excessive energy in the laser light.
