abstract ABSTRACT Substituted 2,3,4,9-tetrahydro-1H-carbazole-1-acetic acid derivatives and methods for their prepa-ration and use are disclosed. The compounds are useful analgesic and anti-inflammatory agents. The compounds have the structure (I) wherein R1 is lower alkyl containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms and R, R2, R3 and R4 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and lower alkyl containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms and the pharma-ceutically acceptable salts thereof.
