titleOfInvention | Diphosphonic acid derivatives, processes for the preparation thereofand pharmaceutical compositions containing them |
abstract | ABSTRACT The present invention provides diphosphonates of the general formula:- (I) wherein R1 and R2, which can be the same or different, are hydrogen atoms or lower acyl or alkyl radicals which can be substituted by aryl, R3 and R4, which can be the same or different, are hydrogen atoms or lower alkyl radicals or R3 and R4 together represent a lower alkylene radical, R5 is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl radical, X is a valency bond or a lower, straight-chained or branched alkylene radical, Y is a valency bond, a lower, straight-chained or branched alkylene radical optionally substituted by -NR1R2, in which R1 and R2 have the same meanings as above, Z is a hydrogen atom, a hydroxyl group or an amino group optionally substituted by alkyl radicals and n is 1, 2 or 3; and the pharmacologically compatible, pharma-ceutically acceptable salts thereof; the compounds (I) are calcium complex formers and can be used for treat-ment of diseases of the skeletal system, for example, Paget's disease. |
