titleOfInvention Method for measuring the properties of a composition consisting of a liquid and solid particles and apparatus used in the method
abstract Abstract The invention relates to a method for measuring the properties, especially dry matter content of a com-position consisting of a liquid and solid particles. According to the method, the composition is supplied (E, 3, 9, 45) with electromagnetic radiation, whose wavelength is selected to be smaller than the small-est dimension of particles contained in a composition to be measured. The size of a zone to be radiated is maintained substantially constant and the composition and the zone to be radiated are set in motion relat-ive to each other. A measuring means (6, 12, 9, D) is used to measure the intensity of radiation reflect-ing or scattering back from an electromagnetically radiated zone. The variations of intensity, caused by particles (P) travelling into, within and out of a zone to he radiated, is used to identify the configur-ations of particles and to produce, on the basis of these configurations, signals which represent the particles. These are processed into a message pro-portional to the properties, especially dry matter con-tent of a composition.
