Abstract of Disclosure Automotive Paint Compositions Containing Pearlescent Pigments and Dyes A transparent topcoat coating compositions is described comprising a thermosetting resin material containing a pigment composition and a soluble dye. The pigment composition contains about 40 weight percent to about 80 weight percent of iron oxide encapsulated mica particles. The composition also contains 0.5 weight percent to about 82.5 weight percent of a soluble 1:2 chrome or 1:2 cobalt metal organic complex dye. When used in a multi-coat coating process as a base coat overcoated with a transparent topcoat, an article is produced having improved pearlescent color effects, improved depth and clarity, and resistance to fade from ultraviolet light. |
