titleOfInvention | Hair waving process and process for permanently restructuring kinky or curly hair |
abstract | COMPOSITION AND PROCESS FOR RESTRUCTURING HAIR Abstract of the Disclosure A process for the restructuring of hair in which the hair is exposed to the action of a reducing solution containing at least one reducing agent capable of cystine cleavage, for a time, e.g., from about 5 to about 20 minutes, to achieve substantially maximum cystine bond cleavage; blotting the hair to remove the reactive reduc-ing solution; contacting the hair with a protein flow solution for a period of time, e.g., from about 5 to about 10 minutes, sufficient to induce protein flow in the hair; and urging the hair into a new configuration prior to application of an oxidizing agent to reestablish the cystine bonds. The protein flow solution is an aqueous solution having a pH of from about 2 to about 10 and containing at least one protein flow agent which is a polyvalent metal ion, a water-soluble hydroxyorganic compound containing up to about 4 carbon atoms, and at least one hydroxyl group of mixtures thereof. The hair may be waved or straightened. |
