ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: The invention relates to novel biologically active tripeptide and tetrapeptide alkylamides of the general for-mula (I): (I) wherein R1 is an alkyl radical with 1 to 5 carbon atoms, A is a peptidically bound alanine or proline rest, B is a peptidi-cally bound glycine, alanine or proline rest, n is an integer of 1 or 2 and R2 is an alkylcarbonylamino group with 2 to 12 carbon atoms, an alkenyl radical with 6 to 12 carbon atoms or a benzyloxycarbonylamino group. These compounds show a remark-able inhibitory activity towards the pancreatic and leucocytal elastase and are expected to find use in the treatment of acute pancreatitis, chronical obstructive pulmonary disease (pulmo-nary emphysema) and certain forms of arthrites. The invention also relates to processes for the preparation of the title compounds and to pharmaceutical compositions containing the same. |
