titleOfInvention Compliant press fit electrical contact
abstract ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A compliant press fit electrical contact, comprises an elongate member having a longitudinal trough to accomodate a reduction in the exterior cross sectional dimensions of the member when the contact is pressed into a hole. A relief area, formed on said elongate member is also provided for preferentially deforming the contact when pressed into the hole, to cause the contact to preferentially deflect about a longitudinal hinge line during the reduction in the exterior cross sectional dimensions of the elongate member. There is also disclosed a method of reducing the difference in insertion forces between the maximum hole size within the tolerance range and the minimum hole size within the tolerance range comprising preferentially deforming the contact to deflect about a longitudinal hinge line, in response to insertion of the contact into the hole.
