abstract SLAGGING COMBUSTOR WITH EXTERNALLY-HOT FUEL INJECTOR Abstract of the Disclosure A sleeve is provided for surrounding a nozzle for injecting particulate carbonaceous material, extending into a slagging combustor. Slag which flows along the interior surfaces of the combustor, also flows along the sleeve and is retained by projections such as ribs or pins. The slag strips off into an oxidant flow field, providing a local hot zone to assure combustion closely adjacent to the fuel-ejection orifices of the nozzle.
