abstract ASTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention relates to a substituted benzenesulfonyl isocyanate of the formula II (II) wherein X represents an oxygen atom or a single bond, Y and Z each represents a halogen atom, a C1 to C6 alkyl group, a C1 to C6 alkoxy group or a nitro group, and m and n are each independently 0, 1 or 2 with the proviso that m and n are not both 0 at the same time,and a process for preparing compounds of formula II. The compounds of formula II are useful as intermediates in the preparation of herbicides.
