titleOfInvention | Process for the preparation of carboxylic acids starting from olefins or vicinal dihydroxy compounds |
abstract | Abstract of the Disclosure This invention relates to a process for the preparation of a monocarboxylic or dicarboxylic acid by the oxidative scis-sion of an olefine or of its corresponding vicinal dihydroxy compound. An olefine of the formula R1-CH=CH-R2 or R1-CH=CH2 or a vicinal dihydroxy compound of formula R1-CHOH-CHOH-R2 or R1-CHOH-CH2OH (wherein R1 and R2 are either equal to or different from each other, and possibly substituted with groups inert under the reaction conditions, represent hydrocarbon groups such as the alkyls having up to 30 carbon atoms; the cycloalkyls, possibly branched or substituted and having from 3 to 12 carbon atoms; the aryls and alkylaryls having from 6 to 12 carbon atoms; moreover, R1 and R2 may be bound to each other in such a way as to form an alkenyl or cycloalkyl having up to 12 carbon atoms) are made to react, under vigorous stirring, with H2O2, at a temperature be-tween 0° and 120°C, and under a pressure of between 1 and 100 atmospheres; and including an aqueous phase containing H2O2 and an organic phase consisting or consisting essentially of a sol-vent, the olefine or the vicinal dihydroxy compound, and a cata-lyst. |
