SPECIFIC The invention relates to novel 3-benzylidene camphors corresponding to the general formula: (I) in which: R1 denotes a hydrogen atom or a radical -SO3? M? where M denotes a hydrogen atom, an alkali metal or a group N (R3) 4 ?, R3 denoting a hydrogen atom or a C1 to C4 alkyl or hydroxyalkyl radical: R2 denotes a linear C1 to C4 alkyl radical or branched or a C1 to C4 alkoxy radical, n being a number integer ranging from 0 to 4, it being understood that when n is 2 or greater than 2 the R2 radicals can be identical or different; Z represents a group: in which R4 has the same meanings as R1 and can be equal to R1 or different from R1, or a group: in which R5 denotes a hydrogen atom, an alkyl radical in C1 to C4, an aryl radical optionally substituted by halogen atoms or by C1 or C6 alkyl or alkoxy groups C4, a radical -CN, -COOR7 or and R6 denotes a -COOR8 group or , R7 and R8, identical or different, being alkyl radicals, alkenyl, cycloalkyl or aralkyl containing not more than 20 carbon atoms, optionally substituted with groups hydroxy, alkoxy, amine or quaternary ammonium, R9 and R10, identical or different, denoting an atom hydrogen or alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl or aralkyl containing not more than 20 carbon atoms, substituted by hydroxy, alkoxy, amine or quaternary ammonium, provided that when R5 denotes a hydrogen atom, an alkyl or aryl radical optionally substituted, R6 can also represent a radical -COO? M ?, M having the above meaning, the two radicals methylidene camphor on the one hand and Z on the other hand being fixed on the aromatic nucleus A either in the meta position or in the posi-tion para one in relation to the other. The derivatives of formula (I) are useful in particular in cosmetics for protection against UV rays. They are perfectly soluble in usual cosmetic solvents and have good stability thermal and excellent photochemical stability. |
