abstract ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention provides a process for the preparation of Pirenzepin (5,11-dihydro-11-[(4-methyl-1-piperazinyl)-acetyl]-6H-pyrido[2,3,b][1,4] benzodiazepin-6-one) which comprises converting 5,11-dihydro-6H-pyrido [2,3-b][1,4]-benzodiazepin-6-one into its di-lithium salt and reacting the product with a (4-methyl-1-piperazinyl)-acetate. Pirenzepin is a known drug, used in the treatment of ulcers.
