ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Method for reducing electrical energy consump-tion over long term use of an electrolytic cell con-taining an ion exchange membrane which comprises elec-trolyzing an alkali metal chloride solution in the cell which contains a concentration of less than about 70 ppm carbon oxide whether or not such concentration is achieved by removing excess carbonate previously added to the solution to reduce the hardness. |
