abstract ELECTROCHEMICAL DETERMINATION OF ORTHOPHOSPHORIC MONOESTER PHOSPHOHYDROLASE ACTIVITY (EC 3.1.3.1 AND EC 3.1.3.2: ALKALINE AND ACID PHOSPHATASES) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method is disclosed for the measurement of phosphate ester substrate containing a nitro group is re-acted with acid or alkaline phosphatase under appropriate reaction conditions and the hydrolytic process is monitor-ed at electrodes which measure the current produced by the reduction of the nitro groups of the product and/or sub-strate. Alternatively, an aromatic phosphate ester sub-strate containing an amino group is reacted with acid or alkaline phosphatase under appropriate reaction conditions with the hydrolytic process being monitored at solid elec-trode which measure the current produced by the oxida-tion of the amino groups of the product and/or substrate.
