titleOfInvention Voltage-limiting circuit
abstract ABSTRACT: 18 An arrangement for providing protection against overheating in a voltage limiting circuit in the event of overvoltages comprises a series arrangement of a voltage limiting element and a heat sensitive switching element. The voltage limiting element and heat sensitive switching element are connected by a high conductivity heat path so that when the temperature of the element increases this increase is passed to the switching element which reduces or switches off the current in the line between the ter-minals. In operation a signal supply line is connected to one terminal and the protected equipment is connected to the other terminal. The arrangement may be used to protect telephone exchange equipment from high voltages induced on telephone lines as a result, for example of lightning.
