abstract A B S T R A C T A method of removing dissolved contaminant alkali. metals and alkaline earth metals from molten aluminium by reaction of the contaminants with solid particulate materials comprising aluminium fluoride, wherein a body of the molten aluminium to be decontaminated is stirred, in the presence of the aluminium fluoride particles, in such manner as to generate and maintain a stable vortex in the molten body.
