titleOfInvention Process for dehalogenation of organic halides
abstract Halogenated species such as PCB dissolved in hydrocarbonbased electrical insulating oil are dehalogenated by contacting the oil with a fine dispersion of molten sodium particles of which at least 80% are below 10 microns particle size, at a temperature of 100 to 160.degree.C. The process removes hazardous halogenated species and permits the oil, after water washing to remove sodium and solubles, drying and, if necessary, activated clay treatment, to be re-used as insulating oil.
