PROCESS FOR PREPARING PROPANE SULFONATES Abstract Propane sulfonates of the general formula RY(C2H4O)xCH2CH2CH2SO3Na in which R is alkyl or alkaryl, Y is O or S and x is 0 to 20 are prepared by a two-stage process from the corresponding alcohol RY(C2H4O)xH and an allyl halide or tosylate in the presence of strong aqueous NaOH and some final product as phase transfer agent, and in situ reaction with bisulfite. |
