abstract ABSTRACT Substituted urea compounds containing at least one 2,2,2-trichloro-1-hydroxyethyl group are provided, which are useful as flame retardants for polymers such as polyurethane. The novel compounds are more soluble than prior art compounds adapted for the same purpose and also allow the preparation of polyol solutions with higher chlorine content, thus making them more useful for preparing polymers with a higher degree of fire resistance, such as Class 1 rigid polyurethane foams.
