titleOfInvention Method and composition for reducing pain
abstract METHOD AND COMPOSITION FOR REDUCING PAIN ABSTRACT The present invention relates to a method and composition for reducing pain in animals, including humans, associated with gastro-intestinal dysfunction. Gastrointestinal pain, and particularly ulcer pain, is poorly controlled by available uncontrolled drugs, not having undesirable side effects. Dextromethorphan is known in the art as an antitussive, but has no known analgesic activity. It has now been discovered that dextromethorphan provides temporary relief from gastric pain, and that the relief may be enhanced by combination with one or more of a histamine H2 receptor antagonist, an antacid, an anti-cholinergic, and an antiflatulent.
