abstract ABSTRACT Novel compounds and a process for preparing them are disclosed comprising: (A) Reacting a chlorophthalic anhydride of the formula wherein n is 1 or 2, with potassium fluoride or cesium fluoride to form a fluorophthalamic anhydride of the formula wherein n is as previously defined; (B) Reacting the fluorophthalic anhydride of (A) with ammonia to form an ammonium fluorophthalamate; (C) Acidifying the ammonium fluorophthalamate of (B) to form a fluorophthalamic acid; (D) Dehydrating the fluorophthalamic acid of (c) to form a fluorophthalamide; and (E) reacting the fluorophthalamide of (D) with an alkali metal salt to form an alkali metal fluorophthalamide.
