titleOfInvention | Non-a, non-b hepatitis virus |
abstract | Abstract of the Disclosure Newly discovered particles have been round associated with non-A, non-B hepatitis. The first particle resembles a togavirus. It has a diameter of 50-60 nm with a discrete, spherical core of about 40 nm in diameter, and loses its infectivity for tissue culture upon heating at 25°C in aqueous suspension or by exposure to ether. The second par-ticle resembles an enterovirus. It is spherical, having a diameter of about 27 nm, exhibits a buoyant density of 1.36 in isopycnic density-gradient centrifugation with cesium chloride, loses its infectivity only upon prolonged heating at high temperatures and is not sensitive to ether. This particle does not have an envelope. Both particles may be cultured in vitro or recovered from body fluids or tissues for use in immunoassays and vaccines. The immunoassays may be employed to detect the particles, particle antigens or antibodies to the particles. |
