abstract | Abstract of the Disclosure Apparatus for detecting predetermined irregularities in the contour of the sidewalls of a tire includes transducer probes which are selectively positionable adjacent to the sidewalls of the tire. As the tire is rotated, the output signals of the probes, which are proportional to sidewall contour, are received by a signal processing circuit which determines the rate of change in contour of the sidewall, and compares that rate of change with a preselected rate of change. The period in which the actual rate of change might exceed the preselected rate of change is timed and if that period lasts longer than a preselected time period, an output signal alerts the operator that a predetermined irregularity exists. In this manner, small normally occurring irregularities are ignored but larger undesirable irregularities are automatically detected. |
