Disclosed are novel macrolide antibiotics of the formula I I wherein R is H or OH and A represents a double bond between the carbon atoms of positions 12 and 13 or, together with the carbon atoms of positions 12 and 13 an oxirane ring, as well as the pharmaceutically acceptable esters and salts thereof, The compounds can be prepared by fermentation of the novel species designated Micromonospora polytrota (e.g. M. poly-trota NRRL 12066). The compounds show antibacterial activity. |
