abstract DELIGNIFICATION AND BLEACHING OF LIGNOCELLULOSIC PULP VIA PHOTO-OXYGENATION ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for the delignification and bleaching of lignocel-lulosic pulp employing electronically excited oxygen generated in situ which comprises subjecting an aqueous slurry of said ligno-cellulosic pulp having a consistency of from about 0.01% to about 10.0%, by weight of oven-dried pulp, and whose slurry pH is between about 8 and about 13 to irradiation with ultraviolet light while admitting oxygen into said slurry.
