titleOfInvention Method of producing a catalyst from clay minerals for the hydratization of olefins
abstract ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An improved method is disclosed for producing a catalyst comprising phosphoric acid and a carrier, for the hydration of olefins with 2-3 carbon atoms to the corresponding alcohols. The starting material may be clays of specific characteristics which are then specially acid treated or have been acid treated. This material is then mixed with 5-15% by weight of one or more oxides of Cr, Mo or ?, the water content adjusted, the mixture pressed into the desired shape, calcined, treated with acid to lower the Al2O3 content to specific values and provide a certain surface area, and finally impregnated with phosphoric acid.
