abstract | IMPROVED OVERDRIVE TRANSMISSION FOR AUTOMOTIVE VEHICLES ABSTRACT A transmission clutching mechanism having a clutch-ing element which is movable among and intermediate neutral position, forwardly to an overdrive position and rearwardly to a direct drive position. On the input shaft, a spline said having an outside diameter larger than the diameter of the input shaft is arranged adjacent an internal spline array of an axially translatable clutch element. The in-ternal spline array is adjacent a region having an inside diameter larger than the inside diameter of the spline array. An annular gear includes an internal spline array and an adjacent region having a larger inside diameter which co-operates with an external spline array having a diameter larger than the diameter of the clutch element upon which it is disposed. A spline said rotationally interconnects the axially translating clutch element to the output shaft. |
