ABSTRACT A surface of a hot ribbon of glass, which has just been formed, is coated by directing a flow of coating gas substan-tially parallel to the glass surface under laminar flow conditions. The laminar flow is in the direction of ribbon advance or co-current to that direction, and the gas is rele-ased uniformly across the width of the ribbon. The coating gas contains a constituent, for example a silane, which decomposes on the hot glass surface to deposit a coating, for example silicon, on the glass surface. |
