Process for the manufacture of 4,5-dichloro-2-(4-chloro-phenoxy)phenol Abstract of the Disclosure A process for the manufacture of 4,5-dichloro-2-(4-chloro-phenoxy)phenol by selective chlorination of 2-phenoxyanisole with 3 to 5 molar equivalents of chlorine, in the temperature range between -10°and +50°C, preferably between 0° and 30°C, in a lower halogenated ali-phatic hydrocarbon, a lower aliphatic nitrile, in dimethyl formamide, dimethyimethanephosphonate or methanol, preferably in dimethyl forma-mide, dimethylmethanephosphonate, methanol, acetonitrile, propio-nitrile, chloroform, methylene chloride, 1,2-dichloroethane or tetra-chloroethane, and demethylation of the 4,5-dichloro-2-(4-chloro-phenoxy)anisole obtained as intermediate with an acid. |
