abstract ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to novel prostaglandin F2.alpha.(PGF2.alpha.) deriva-tives having the general formula (XII) (XII) or a racemate thereof, wherein R1 is hydrogen, lower alkanoyl, trihaloalkanoyl, optionally substituted benzoyl, lower alkoxycarbonyl, lower trihaloalkoxy-carbonyl, or optionally substituted phenoxycarbonyl or benzyloxycarbonyl; R2 is hydrogen or alkyl of one to 4 carbon atom(s), R4 is hydrogen or a protect-ing group; Q is hydrogen, alkyl of one to 4 carbon atom(s) or a pharmaceuti-cally acceptable non-toxic cation. This invention also relates to the racemate consisting of one of the optically active isomers and its mirror image. A process or the preparation of the above compounds is also disclosed. The compounds according to the invention possess valuable prostaglandin-like pharmaceutical activity, are much more effective than natural PGP2.alpha. and show definite .alpha.-adrenergic stimulating activity.
