A B S T R A C T A process for preparing a compound having the general formula (I) wherein Ar represents an aryl group (especially an .alpha.-naphthyl, .beta.-naphthyl or phenyl grou) which can be substituted by one or more C1-C4-alkyl, C1-C4-alkoxy, methylenedioxy, halogen, CF3, NH2 or N02 groups, A represents a -CHOH-, -CH20-, -CH2S-, -CH2NH-, -OCH2-, -SCH2-, -NH-, -NHCOCH2-. -CH2NHCH2-, or -NHCH2- group. Y represents O or NH, and B represents a single bond and can represent, if A is CH2S, a -CH2- or -CH(CH3)- group, and their salts, the process comprising reacting a compound of general formula Ar-A-B-Z (II), wherein Ar, A, and B are as defined above and Z is CN or C(=NH)O-Alk when Y is to be NH, or Z is COZ1 when Y is to be O, Alk being a C1-4 alkyl group and Z1 being C1, Br, CH30, C2H50, n-C3H70, or iso-C3H70 with hydroxylamine (NH20H), and if desired converting the product to an acid addition salt when Y is NH, or to a metal salt when Y is O. The compounds of formula (I) and their salts have therapeutic utility in treatment of neuropsychic ailments. |
