abstract | A B S T R A C T A method is described for activating the roasting of high magnesium nickeliferous lateritic and garnieritic ores to facilitate extraction of contained nickel values. According to the method, particles of the ore are roasted in a stream of hot reducing gases containing hydrogen at a temperature of from 1250° to 1600°F. During roasting, the particles are maintained in con-tact with a chlorine-containing additive in an amount such that the heated ore particles and additive contain from about 0.5% to about 10% chlorine by weight. |
